Tram lines 1,5, and 8 take you from the main train station to the tram stop
"Universitätsplatz", in front of the university.
However,
only line 8 passes the tram stop in front of the train station,
while all three lines 1, 5, and 8 stop at
"Hauptbahnhof/Brandenburger Strasse", not more than 50 meters away.
So you better use the latter stop, cf. the map:
